Introduction
 |
Physical Education is taught to all students across the key stages. Our aim is to provide students with the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sport and leisure activities in order to inject a positive attitude to exercise, health and personal fitness. We also aim for Hainault Forest students to create and develop a life long commitment to sporting activities. Personal qualities such as politeness, perseverance, initiative and independence through student self esteem and confidence are also consistently implemented into Physical Education. |
Curriculum
Key Stage 3(years 7-9)
Students participate in a broad curriculum of 12 different activity areas throughout the school year. Students are assessed in both their performance (national curriculum level), as well as their attitude (grade A-E). Students are expected to wear their full PE kit for all lessons, which are currently 2 x 1 hour lessons per week.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11 core PE)
 |
We have a Sports Centre approach to Physical Education, where by students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities. Students focus on the roles of Performer (competitive or expressive), Coach and Official. We often have external coaches involved within these lessons to lead particular session, such as Martial Arts and Dance. The department has a Health and Fitness suite with a modernised weights room, which students regularly use freely within lesson time to develop their personal fitness. Students have the freedom to move around within the Sports Centre to participate in various activities. We feel this motivates students to take a larger responsibility of their personal development. Students must wear sports clothing for these 2 x 1 hour lessons. |
Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11 GCSE course)
 |
Students at GCSE level have 2 theoretical based lessons with 1 practical based lesson, all 1 hour in duration. Students undertake many different sports, with an Outdoor Education residential trip at the end of year 10. For each student, their 4 best practical marks will be carried through to assessment. Students study various modules within the classes, ranging from Factors Affecting Performances, Safety Aspects within Sport, and Anatomy & Physiology. Students at this level are expected to be involved greatly within the extra curricular clubs and represent the school where possible. Students are encouraged to take the Young Sports Leader Award, and to be taking part in sport outside of school. |
Key Stage 5 (AS / A2)
The new post 16 course in Physical Education is highly practical based, where students take a great responsibility in creating and developing personal portfolios as performers, coaches, coaches and officials. There are written examinations for both year 12 and 13. All students wishing to study Physical Education at this level must achieve aB at GCSE level, be competing outside of school and have a desire and passion for sports if they are to succeed and move onto further studies at university.
Lunchtime / After School Clubs
 |
We offer an extremely varied extra-curricular programme. These clubs are time-tabled and updated each term. The programme offers students to join competitive teams in Football, Basketball, Netball, Cricket, Athletics and Rounders against other schools within the London Borough of Redbridge, London and Essex (Representing the school is highly regarded). The clubs also provide students with an opportunity to improve their skills and therefore boost practical marks from curriculum lessons. Students will also gain benefits of relieving stress and making new friends from attending clubs. The clubs are open to all students in all years. However, it must be stated that sports clothing is a must for clubs.
