Welcome, apologies if you don't see your language here but over 59 different languages are spoken by staff and students at Hainault Forest High School, a fact that we are very proud of.

Who Are We?

Ms Lesley Tibballs - Head of Department

Mr Korab Nerguti - Bilingual (Albanian) MEA Teacher

Mrs Kamila Thaker - Bilingual (Polish,Russian,German) Teaching Assistant

Ms Denise Groves - EAL Teaching Assistant

What Do We Do?

MEA is Minority Ethnic Achievement . We are teachers responsible for monitoring the achievement of minority ethnic groups in the school for example, Polish or Somali students and for taking measures to ensure that they are achieving their potential.

EAL is English as an Additional language . We teach English to students whose first language is not English.

The Ways in Which We Can Help Your Child

1. Teach English Language

•  We work with other teachers to prepare materials to help the students access the curriculum.

•  We teach students who are new to English in our Extended Core classes. This equips students with enough English to cope in subject lessons.

•  We provide a lunchtime club where students can get help with homework and use bilingual resources.

2. Induction of Students who Arrive Mid Term

•  We are responsible for meeting new students and we help them to settle into the school. We administer tests which enable departments to allocate appropriate groups before the students start.

•  We ask students to complete a short paper which tells us how much English they already know. We use this to decide the support they may need from us.

3. We plan celebrations of key events like Black History Month,

Multilingual March and Refugee Week. We also contribute a Multi-ethnic aspect to the annual Citizenship Week and plan to work with the wider community to promote Community Cohesion, in the future.

4. Ms Tibballs is responsible fo r Race Equality in the school and feeds back our progress in this area every July through a newsletter to parents, staff and School Governors.

5 . Our lunchtime Booster Club is well attended and is there to support

EAL students with homework and coursework.

6. We provide translators/interpreters for parents meetings and evenings.

7. We make arrangements for EAL students to be supported during SATs and GCSEs.

If you would like to know more or if you would like to contribute in some way, please contact Ms Tibballs at the school. We look forward to hearing from you.
