Years 10 and 11

Business Studies ICAA

This course fully prepares students for further study. The assessment is by 2 exams, one worth 75%, the other 25% of the final grade. It is available in foundation and higher tiers.

  • Unit 1 - Business and its Environment

  • Unit 2 - Human Resources

  • Unit 3 - Finance and Accounting

  • Unit 4 – Marketing

  • Unit 5 - Production

Applied Business OCR GCSE Double Option

Worth 2 GCSEs, this course is vocational in nature and gives students an insight into how real businesses operate.

Three units are covered over the two years:

  • Investigating Business (coursework)

  • People and Business (coursework)

  • Business Finance (exam)

OCR Level 2 National Award in Business, which is equivalent to 2 GCSEs grades A - C

The course is made up of 3 Units, 100% coursework, consisting of:

  • Unit 1 – Investigating Business

  • Unit 4 – Communication in Business

  • Unit 9 – E-Business

Year 12

OCR Level 2 National Certificate in Business, which is equivalent to 4 GCSEs grades A - C

The course is made up of 6 Units, 100% coursework, consisting of:

  • Unit 1 – Investigating Business

  • Unit 2 – Enterprise and Operations

  • Unit 3 – Finance in Business

  • Unit 4 – Communication in Business

  • Unit 9 – E-Business

  • Unit 12 – Career Planning

OCR National courses take up most of a student's timetable and only Maths and English can be taken in addition.

Years 12/13

Applied A-level Business studies

The Full Award is equivalent to 2 A levels and is a two-year course comprising 12 units. The Single Award (6 units) can run over one or two years and is equivalent to one full A level.

Applied A-level’s are more work-related than A levels and assignments are completed throughout the course. There is an emphasis on investigation and practical activities.

All the Double Applied A-level courses include the following units:

AS units:

  • Unit 1: Creating a marketing proposal (coursework)

  • Unit 2: Recruitment in the workplace (coursework)

  • Unit 3: Understanding the business environment (written exam)

  • Unit 4: The impact of customer service (written exam)

  • Unit 6: Running an enterprise activity (coursework)

  • Unit 8: Understanding production in business (coursework)

A2 units:

  • Unit 9: Strategic decision making (written exam)

  • Unit 10: A business plan for the entrepreneur (coursework)

  • Unit 13: Promotion in action (coursework)

  • Unit 12: Launching a business online (coursework)

  • Unit 15: Launching a new product or service in Europe (coursework)

  • Unit 17: Business law (written exam)
