Admissions
Admissions Criteria
Every school has a size based on their "admission number". This is the agreed and planned number of pupils in the year group that can be safely and comfortably fitted into the school. All schools or local authorities that deal with their admissions (also known as "admitting authorities") have admissions criteria that they must follow. The criteria for Redbridge schools that are their own admitting authority (Foundation and Faith schools) are on pages 16 to 25. Information about schools outside of Redbridge may be obtained by contacting the relevant authority, details at the back of this booklet. Listed below is the order in which places will be allocated to Redbridge community comprehensive schools :
a. Children with a statement of special educational needs will be admitted to the school that is named on their statement;
b. "Looked after" children (those who are in the public care of the Local Authority);
c. Children living in a catchment area, who applied on time, based on the distance from their home to the school's main gate using the shortest reasonable walking route by public roads and footpaths, as measured by a Geographic Information System (GIS);
d. Children living in a catchment area, who applied late, that is after the deadline, based on the distance from their home to the school's main gate using the shortest reasonable walking route by public roads and footpaths, as measured by a Geographic Information System (GIS); e. Children resident after the application deadline whose parents/carers express a preference for their "linked" catchment school;
f. Children with a sibling attending the named school, who applied on time and who is both currently on roll at the school and who will continue to attend that school in the following academic year, based on the distance from their home to the school's main gate using the shortest reasonable walking route using public roads and footpaths, as measured by a GIS;
g. Children with a sibling attending the named school, who applied late - ie, after the deadline, and who is both currently on roll at the school and who will continue to attend that school in the following academic year, based on the distance from their home to the school's main gate using the shortest reasonable walking route using public roads and footpaths, as measured by a GIS;
h. Children living outside the catchment area, who applied on time and who do not have a sibling attending, based on the distance from their home to the school's main gate using the shortest reasonable walking route using public roads and footpaths, as measured by a GIS.
i. Children living outside the catchment area, who applied late - ie, after the deadline and who do not have a sibling attending, based on the distance from their home to the school's main gate using the shortest reasonable walking route using public roads and footpaths, as measured by a GIS.
Where there are more applicants from within the common catchment area than places available, only children from within the catchment will be tested. Children from outside the catchment will only be tested if places cannot be filled from those resident within the catchment and, given the high number of applicants from within the catchment, this is highly unlikely.
CATCHMENT AREA MAP
Please note that in the cases of the shortest measured walking distance as measured by a Geographic Information System from the child's home to the main entrance of the school using the shortest reasonable walking route using public roads and footpaths, it should be noted that when measurements involve flats in the same block, the distance will be to the entrance of each individual flat.
